Day 7 Costa Rica - Stephanie

We are getting an A+ in Slothism.  Kevin, as usual, got up early, I however slept in till about 6:30.  I did hear the rooster alarm clock going off at 3:30 am again, but tuned him out.  And speaking of the rooster, he and his little hen friend are hilarious.  They sneak into the yard thinking they are not being seen (at least he does, I don't think she cares one way or the other as long as she can find a place to scratch and peck at the ground).  Earlier in the yard next to us I spotted the rooster, hen, a vulture, and the little Gray -Necked Wood Rail all hanging out together.  The Wood Rail spotted me from the deck above where I was trying to be sneaky myself and get their photos, along with a new hummer I've noticed buzzing around - the White-necked Jacobin (at least that is what my photos matches up with in the book).

While Kevin went to photograph whatever he found interesting and put fuel in the car, I stayed at the house and sat in the front yard watching Jesus Jr, the rooster and hen sneaking into the yard, and then 2 brown birds fighting over a piece of banana I threw into the yard to see what would attract it. Turns out they are Clay-colored Thrush.

After Kevin got back, we lounged some more, and then mustered up the energy to go to a section of beach that we discovered 2 days ago that is pretty much vacant.  We were the only ones there.  We attempted snorkeling, but the waves were too aggressive, and the only thing to see were 100's of Sand Dollars.  So we bobbed happily and enjoyed watching the clouds come in and another huge flock of Vultures arriving. I also got another bird to add to my list from Costa Rica - a Whimbrel.  One thing I miss (kinda) is all the Seagulls on the beach, there are none at all!  Strange for a beach setting to me.

Then off to dinner - we chose pizza tonight. A piece of pizza each from Rapido Pizza (where it is already made, you choose what you want, and off through the oven it goes).  It was very good.

Rain had set in while eating our pizza but then stopped until we got home.  As we were leaving I had to get a photo of a little girl on her bike with her dog in the basket up front.  He was traveling in high style compared to the other dogs that have to run.

Now a big thunder storm has come in with more rain heavily coming down.  We have noticed that the Costa Rica weather God is being good to us by giving us sunny days and wait until about dark to bring in the rain.  Very considerate of them.  We did walk up and down the roads in the dark with our flashlights trying to find frogs.  We can sure hear them but they are very well hidden.  Needless to say, we didn't spot any and came back in soaked.

Of  course we could hear the Howler Monkeys throughout the day and night.  It wouldn't be the same without hearing them.

We have no idea what we will do this weekend.  Monday we have an all day adventure planned with Abel, that will entail hiking up into the jungle to see waterfalls and caves, and then gradually make our way back to the coast where we will be brought back by boat.  Sounds like fun!  I think we may do our own little jungle hike tomorrow, or adventure across another mountain road Kevin found out about today.  I'm sure whatever we do, we will enjoy ourselves.  Kevin said this evening this has to be the most relaxing vacation we have ever had. I agree and no complaints from me.

Not too many photos for today, but I like the ones I chose.  ¡nos vemos mañana!
